What is INIT 2022?
INIT is a celebration for the start of Major League Hacking's 2022 Hackathon Season, running from June 27 through July 5th! While this is the first time we are running INIT, the format will feel familiar to those who have participated in Local Hack Day. You can expect to complete challenges, hear about BIG community announcements, chat at hacker hangouts, enjoy fun live sessions, and make new memories (and memes).
We will be bringing back all of your favorite features of MLH events such as Local Hack Day style challenges, live technical sessions with MLHers, mini-events galore, and some cool content from our partners! Here’s a sneak peek:
- Lots of exciting 2022 Season announcements
- Beginner-friendly workshops
- Challenges for all difficulty levels and all topics such as design, social, technical, entrepreneurial
- Hacker-run guilds and leaderboards
- Panels and talks from friends of MLH and our partners
- Live sessions run by MLHers
- And maybe an appearance from Totally Not Ryan (TNR)
Can I get swag at this event?
Yes, of course! INIT 2022 will be the first opportunity of the 2022 Hackathon Season to get swag and it will even include our new season mascot… You’ll have to participate to find out!
What is a Guild? How can I be a part of it?
One of the best parts of our community is that it allows people to meet and make connections with others, regardless of where you live. guilds are smaller communities within Major League Hacking. Whether you come in with a guild or not, you won’t be hacking alone.
Your challenge submission must be completed within the submission period(Sunday, June 27th at 12 PM EST - Monday, June 28th at 12 PM EST)
Your code must be available in some sort of public repository.
If you're continuing work on an old project, you MUST specify in your Devpost what was worked on 1) before this day one of INIT 2022 and 2) during day day of INIT 2022.
Make an Invisibility Cloak using Computer Vision
Ever wished you could throw a cloak on and become invisible? Using computer vision, create an application that removes objects from the image.
Create a Starter Pack for Someone Else
We know many of you enjoy using our Hackathon Starter Packs to learn new skills. For this challenge, we want you to help out other hackers by creating your own starter pack! This could include tutorials, starter code, or anything else you think someone needs to get started with your favorite tool, programming language, or framework.
Create a Two-Player Game
What’s better than playing a game alone? Playing a game with friends! Create any two-player game. It can be text-based, made in Scratch, Unity, or any other platform you’d like.
Create a Two-factor Authentication System
You’ll feel even more prepared for the next season knowing that your data is safe and secure! Create a system that requires users to go through two layers of security, requiring more than just a username and password.
Explore Machine Learning
If you’ve always wanted to learn about Machine learning, now is your chance! Build a small project, read articles, or follow a tutorial to explore this project.
Create a Playlist Generator
The perfect playlist is key to a great day. Create an application that generates playlists. Curating based on someone’s listening habits is a classic, but feel free to choose a non-traditional input when choosing the music (like music based on what you had for breakfast or what the weather forecast is). Submit on the Day 1 Devpost so we can sing your praises.
Redesign the UI/UX of any Product you Use
Pick out a product or tool that you use regularly and imagine how the UI/UX could be redesigned to better fit your needs.
Build a Calculator
Planning to do any math during the upcoming hackathon season? Build yourself a calculator to use. If you want an extra challenge, try making a scientific calculator, graphing calculator, or binary calculator!
Build and Host a Personal Website using Replit
Developing for the web has never been easier. Use Replit’s starter code (https://replit.com/@templates/Personal-Blog-Site) to build a website about yourself, something you are passionate about, or anything that you’re inspired by!
